Christina, how do you view cultural fusion in a Taiwanese-American family?

Growing up in a mixed marriage family, I lived in both the US and Taiwan for over ten years. As I’ve gotten older, my perspective on culture has changed. I used to think cultural differences were a challenge, but now I see them as an advantage. Smart is the new sexy!
In today’s world, speaking multiple languages is a cool thing, helping you connect with the world. Growing up learning both English and Chinese, and recently starting to learn Japanese, I feel that language is like a door. Once it opens, you meet different cultures and many interesting people, and that excites me!

How did your parents influence your cultural identity growing up?

We had a traditional Taiwanese dad and a free-spirited New York mom, so even at home it was like a collision of Eastern and Western cultures. One taught me to be polite and considerate of others, while the other encouraged me to express myself boldly and pursue individuality. This stark contrast made me start questioning earlier: “Who am I? What kind of person do I want to be?” Although it was a struggle at times, it helped me learn how to find my place in different cultures.

How has your dual-cultural background impacted your life and work?

I feel that dual cultures are deeply embedded in my DNA. I used to think that in the US, I had to fully embrace American culture, and in Taiwan, I needed to fit in to avoid standing out. But after traveling back and forth between the two, I realized that my body is like a melting pot of cultures! It combines Eastern and Western thinking and lifestyles.
This background has given me a lot of stories to share and has made me better at understanding different perspectives and thinking from others' viewpoints. At 28, I truly believe that embracing different cultures can enrich one’s life. The world doesn’t only have one shape, and we can choose to be the bridge that connects different cultures.

As a second-generation immigrant, what advice do you have for others?

I truly understand that people growing up in multicultural environments sometimes feel like they don’t belong anywhere. A mixed marriage isn’t easy, and growing up in such a family can be even harder.
What I want to say is: "It’s okay."
No matter how hard you try, you can’t satisfy everyone, so focus on becoming your true self.
I show a lot of compassion for those coming from multicultural backgrounds or those who have never truly felt they fit in. You don’t need to conform to any standard because someone out there will be drawn to you just as you are.

Any hidden gems or must-visit spots for couples in Boston?

I absolutely love walking along the Charles River by the MIT campus, especially at sunset when the entire Boston skyline is bathed in golden light. It’s so romantic, the perfect place for a love-filled vibe (I even think it’s a great fishing spot for success, haha).
Another area I highly recommend is Newbury St and Seaport! There are amazing Italian restaurants, coffee shops, art galleries, rooftop bars, and you can also visit Fanueil Hall. Every time I return to Boston, I always visit these places. It feels familiar and comfortable.

What do you look for in swimwear, and how does HÁI swimwear make you feel?

I used to face a dilemma when buying swimsuits: sexy or modest? But I feel that HÁI the Label completely breaks this mold. Their designs perfectly combine “elegance” and “sexiness,” making me feel both confident and comfortable when I wear them.
Wearing HÁI swimwear gives me the vibe of “I’m beautiful, but not to impress anyone.” It’s for my own happiness!
Many of my friends have recently been raving about their new collection, and every time I wear it, I can’t help but look forward to summer!
